A bollard is a short vertical post, usually made of metal or stone, used to prevent vehicles from entering areas where they are not permitted to go. Bollards can be seen on sidewalks and in parking lots, often placed in front of storefronts to keep cars from parking in front of them. They are meant to protect pedestrians, storefronts and any other structure which cars may hit. This is done by creating a physical barrier that deters cars from driving into the pedestrian area.

Bollards are typically 4”, 6”, or 8” in diameter. They stick out of the ground 4’ and the base is poured in concrete and either the bollard itself or sometimes both the bollard and its base are filled with concrete. They can be painted yellow or a plastic cover can be installed over the bollard.
